“How old will I be when I’m free?”
I remember when my son asked that question. He was
six-years old at the time.
I sighed. “Guess the accommodations are not to your liking.”
Kids say the darndest things. But this was different. What he really wanted to know was why he had to spend one minute doing anything that wasn’t fun or interesting. As soon as he was free, he planned to schedule his day accordingly.
I never forgot our conversation. And over the years, I’ve met students who echoed a similar sentiment. Now more than ever, an enriched education means studying the required courses and also discovering what calls to you. Moves you. Entices you to learn, grow and evolve.
The gap between required and inspired can sometimes feel vast. Creativity is all about bridging that gap.
